Choosing a Class: RECON

Recons are usually the least favored by the team. A lot of beginners enjoy choosing Recon  as it’s the only class that comes standard with a scope.  When most people think of Recon, they think “Sniper”  and this is not always the case. Recon can be used with any PDW or Shotgun you have unlocked, just like any other class.  Most people will choose this to be able to use some of the gadgets Recon offers. However while sniping with high power optics, this will cause scope sway and you are forced to manually steady the scope while holding in the appropriate button.

Recon comes standard with a Spawn Beacon. These  are small devices that once planted, will allow anyone in your squad to spawn on a specific location, without having position. These are extremely useful when your team may be stuck in deployment.  In some maps a spawn beacon will allow you to parachute from the sky, to reverse this, try to place your beacon somewhere that has cover. Such as a container, or a shed.  This can save your squad time.

Recons are able to exchange the following 3 gadgets, T-UGS Sensor, SOFLAM, and the MAV.

  • The MAV is the most favorable option. You can fly the MAV and spot enemies through a thermal optic lens. The MAV also has a motion sensor, so it will reveal enemies on the mini map if you do not spot them.  It is possible to kill with the MAV, it’s a bit difficult but once you know what you are doing it can become easy.  This will be slightly nerfed in the upcoming patch, where you will not be able to kill multiple enemies with a single MAV.  Once there is impact with a soldier it will explode. That being said, MAVs can respawn by an ammo box, like the rest of equipment.  These can be killed easily by small arms fire. If on a MAV, make sure you are in a safe spot, as you are extremely vulnerable on it and can be knifed.
  • The T-UGS Sensor is like the MAV,  but it’s only use is to spot enemy motion. This will reveal moving enemy soldiers on the mini map.  These are better used for quick deployment purposes.  Or to protect you while sniping, or taking position.
  • The SOFLAM is a little less exciting.  This is a device the Recon carry for Engineers, or players with a guided shell in their tank. The SOFLAM can laser designate any air or land vehicle, even when not actively guiding it.  Once a vehicle is locked, a Javelin, for example can lock on to vehicle and damage it. You will get a target damage assist for anyone who uses and hits the target using your lock.

About battlenoobs

Battlenoobs was created primarily for the beginners in the battlefield who may not have experience with the Battlefield franchises, or FPS in general. While most of the information is basic and targeted at console users, I hope to add some tips and strategies for advanced players as well. Any inaccuracies that you may come across in this blog are result of a game patch.
